Adoption Services

Adoption Coordinator

The agency provides the birth parent with an adoption coordinator who will also be available for personal counseling (if desired) throughout the entire adoption process. The coordinator will educate the birth parent on the options available to the birth parent and the unborn child as well as provide information on all aspects of the adoption process. Professional support is also provided during the pregnancy, at the hospital, and after the baby is born. The adoption coordinator will remain available to the birth parent as long as it is needed (generally not to exceed one year from the time of giving birth).

Legal Assistance

Adoptions of Kentucky works in conjunction with the law office of Carolyn Arnett to provide consultation on adoption laws - specifically how each adoption law will affect the birth parent’s particular situation. The birth parent who places a baby for adoption is engaged in the legal process, however, the attorney provides assistance every step of the way to answer questions and provide clarification. The attorney handles all filing of paperwork with the court system. Prior to the brief court appearance, the birth parent and the attorney will discuss the process in detail.

Financial Aid

Assistance with pregnancy related expenses such as transportation, housing and medical bills is provided by the adoptive parent(s) through Adoptions of Kentucky. Based on an assessment of the birth parent’s essential financial needs, the birth parent may receive financial aid reasonably related to the cost of the birth parent’s personal living expenses, the pregnancy, the birth, the placement of the child for adoption, court costs and legal fees. The goal is to provide adequate and safe living conditions for the birth parent in hopes of having a healthy baby.

Selection Services

Adoptions of Kentucky allows the birth parent to personally select the adoptive parent(s) they feel will provide the best home from their unborn child. The birth parent may implement various criteria important to them such as religion, location, family composition, and socio-economic status, among others. If the birth parent is unable to find a match through Adoptions of Kentucky, the agency will conduct a nation-wide search on behalf of the birth parent.

Post-Placement Services

If desired, the birth parent has the option of requesting photos, letters and updates on the child from the adoptive parent(s). The amount of contact the adoptive parent(s) have with the birth parent is a very personal, individual choice and may range from very little to frequent contact. Adoptions of Kentucky requires that all receiving parents agree to furnish the birth parent with pictures and letters on the child's development and progress four times the first year and on the second and third birthdays. Any additional expectations will be the responsibility of the birth parent and adoptive parent(s) to discuss.
